IDEAL EXPERIENCE OF PUBLIC SQUARES OF SAVANNAH
The objective of this project primarily was to design a framework through research and put a spotlight on Savannah squares to understand what people think of these squares and how we can find possible ways to solve the problems they face.

MY ROLE
There is an old-world charm to Savannah Squares that makes them very historical. Many locals interact with these squares on a daily basis. This research seeks to shine a spotlight on these squares and understand what people think of them and how these squares contribute to their lives.
Through the primary and secondary research that we conducted for this project, we developed a framework based on Lextant's book of methods of contextual research.


An in-browser app for people that can help them with assistance via a map, suggestions of places to visit, and nearby cafes or restaurants. The app has a QR code to scan, which will take the user to the augmented reality in the square, allowing them to see the historic scenes in the square.

Researcher

In this project, my primary focus was on conducting extensive research and exploring various methodologies to construct a robust framework. This framework played a vital role in developing a feasible solution for the identified problem.


CULTURAL PROBE
To better understand the user, our team designed a cultural probe as part of our primary research. We provided some clay props and a map of Savannah squares and asked people in squares to participate in our study by designing their own squares and telling us what they were doing while they designed them. This exercise helped us get to know the user and navigate a path to the final solution.

INSIGHTS
In our research, we employed the four-step affinitization method by Lextant, which helped us determine the key values that contribute to the desired experience people seek at these squares, their current sentiments, and areas for improvement. A notable challenge we discovered is the limited availability of resources for individuals to engage in activities around or within the squares.


FRAMEWORK
Here is a synthesized representation of the ideal experience in Savannah Squares. Having variety is at the core of the squares in Savannah, as represented by the center of the framework. The framework comprises four sections of aspiration, with each section containing two values that describe a particular aspect of the experience. At the base of the framework, there are four key enablers that are essential to truly realize these values: weather, company, location, and time.
